The College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences’ Research Division has a rich history of discovery, innovation, and applying cutting-edge technology. Much of its scientific inquiry is conducted by research faculty with joint appointments in the instructional program. Research activity is frequently sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and conducted on A&T’s University Farm and in on-campus laboratories in such disciplines as agricultural economics, animal science, plant science, landscape architecture and design, human nutrition, housing, food science and animal health.

North Carolina A&T College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (CAES) is growing the next generation of leaders and innovations to feed a hungry planet and protect the natural environment. The school nourishes bright young minds, eager to make a difference. From our pioneering Laboratory Animal Science and Landscape Architecture programs to our award-winning Cooperative Extension and Agricultural Research programs to our Center for Excellence in Post-Harvest Technologies, we have a rich history of innovation. Students gain the knowledge and expertise to pursue many career opportunities available in agricultural practice and research globally.

Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T is changing the world, one community at a time, right here in the Triad and beyond. Our students and statewide staff provide research-based information to North Carolinians who have social, cultural, and economic barriers to upward mobility, enabling them to make decisions that improve their communities and lives. Cooperative Extension serves as the educational outreach arm of the nation’s land-grant universities. Our program works as an integrated, nationwide educational and outreach network that improves lives – particularly in rural and economically challenged urban communities – by working with farmers, families, youth, and communities. The N.C. Cooperative Extension has offices in all 100 North Carolina counties and with the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians (EBCI).

N.C. A&T’s Community and Rural Development Programs focus on building the capacity of communities by providing residents with information that helps them reach community and economic goals. Citizens learn how to work together to solve problems and share decisions. Cooperative Extension and ncsmall.farm partners convene people and resources to engage in asset-based community development, visioning, and planning to implement changes they want to make in their lives. The partners of ncsmall.farm convene experts and best practices from across campus and the United States to effectively engage communities in efforts to improve their lives and prosperity.

Partnering with North Carolina A&T State University’s vibrant innovation ecosystem enables a customized collaborative approach to reach your goals. When shared publicly, the work of community and economic development can be followed in the Projects of ncsmall.farm.
